Amber called this evening and informed me that the director of the hematology lab said they couldn't get an exact match for her blood type and with her being pregnant he didn't feel comfortable giving her the blood. He called Dr Rogers and they agreed that an iron transfusion would be the option to take. What is an iron transfusion? good question... I had never heard of such a thing but apparently it isn't very common but not unheard of... The treatment consists of I.V. iron and other minerals (I think)given twice a week for three weeks.. We are very happy that she didn't have to have blood products but unlike getting the red blood transfusion, but I feel badly that she has to do this 5 more times. :( Each treatment lasts about an hour and Amber said it really burned when going in... in part because it has to stay cold until delivered into the vein. (that doesn't sound like fun does it?) Please pray for her comfort and for this process to rejuvenate her!
I think that is the rest of my update.
Keep those prayers coming..
Love....
